Aspire Health Informatics

Is a partnership between two General Practitioners who have a common interest in making clinical information rapidly accessible and easily visible so that patients with particular characteristics of interest or concern can be quickly identified. When clinical data can be easily visualised the importance of 'data quality' becomes obvious and gaps can be found and rectified. Both of us have long-standing interests in the ways that clinical information is captured, and in exploring how the richness and quality of electronic recording can be enhanced.

Over the last fifteen years we have had experience of extracting clinical information from most of the major clinical GP computer systems, importing it into spreadsheet and database applications, for processing. We have learnt to exploit the potential of spreadsheet applications as they have developed, in particular Microsoft Excel with its visual basic macros, pivot tables and graphics. We have used our combined clinical and technical skills to create powerful data analysis tools that can be easily used by clinicians without technical knowledge in a 'near patient' context. We aim to help GP teams to maintain an overall picture of how they are managing patients at a population level and at the same time to enable them to look in detail at the care of individual patients.

On this site you will find examples of our work. We are always interested in opportunities to work with others to develop these themes further. The creation of the CHART toolkit in collaberation with PRIMIS is a good example of this.
